  • Energy... we need it, we burn through it. But what is it exactly? The word itself comes from the Greek energeia which means "activity" or "operation". While bodily energy is needed to accomplish all of our daily tasks, according to physiologists, the human body is notoriously bad at using it efficiently. No wonder so many of us feel so exhausted so often! Subsequently, even though we get our energy from the foods we consume daily, we often feel the need to supplement our energy sources. Typically, people will reach for a cup of coffee. (Unfortunately for many that also means the jitters -a frequent coffee induced side effect.)

To give you some options when looking for an energy-boosting beverage, Metropolitan Tea is pleased to present Energy, an invigorating blend of Green Mate, Lemongrass, Spearmint, Ginseng, Gingko and other vivacious, body enriching herbs. A full-bodied cup with herbal notes and fresh spearmint sweetness, this one is the perfect pick-me-up at any time of day. Feeling down, energy stores lagging? Reach for a cup and get ready for a boost!

    About Mat̩

For those of you unfamiliar with Mate, the base leaf of this blend, the herb is known as a national drink of Brasil and Argentina where it is enjoyed as a pick-me-up at any time of day. The beverage owes its invigorating character to mateine, a caffeine-like compound present in the leaves.

  • Brewing Hot

Bring freshly drawn cold water to a rolling boil. Place 1 teaspoon of tea or 1 teabag for each 8 ounces of fluid volume in the teapot. Pour the boiling water into the teapot. Cover and let steep for 3-7 minutes according to taste (the longer the steeping time the stronger the tea). This tea is best when consumed without milk or sugar.

    Brewing Cold

(to make 1 liter/quart): Place 6 teaspoons of tea or 6 teabags into a teapot or heat resistant pitcher. Pour 1 1/4 cups of freshly boiled water over the tea. Steep for 5 minutes. Quarter fill a serving pitcher with cold water. Pour the tea into your serving pitcher straining the leaves. Add ice and top-up the pitcher with cold water. Garnish and sweeten to taste. [A rule of thumb when preparing fresh brewed iced tea is to double the strength of hot tea since it will be poured over ice and diluted with cold water].
