  • The Pharaohs of ancient Egypt were not known for their easy-to-pronounce names, far from it. There was Pharaoh Siamun, Psusennes, Ahmose, Necho, Shebitku, the list is a long and tongue twisting one. Thankfully, the Pharaoh with perhaps the most difficult name to pronounce of them all, Tutankhamen, is also the only one who developed a nickname in contemporary popular culture, King Tut. While no other Pharaoh can compete in terms of sheer global popularity, King Tut was actually not that well known during his lifetime. His time on the throne was very short, lasting only from 1333 BC to 1322 BC, ending with his untimely death at the age of 19. His young age meant that throughout his reign his vizier, advisor, Ay took care of all the major decisions. With governing the country out of the way, young Tut had a lot of time on his hands, which is where the lemonade comes in.

Although the first recorded account of lemons in Egypt would not be written until about 2300 years after Tut's death, (in a book about a trip to Egypt by the Persian writer Nasir-i-Khusraw), it can be surmised that lemons were in fact known to at least the upper echelons of ancient Egyptian society. The Egyptian empire had a vast network of trade routes so it is entirely possible that the golden yellow fruit made its way up the Nile, perhaps in the hold of an ancient freighter. Now, King Tut, spending his time outdoors gallivanting with his noble young friends would no doubt have worked up an intense thirst as a matter of routine. (Keep in mind the temperatures in Egypt frequently hit 40'C/105'F! That's hot!) And what better way to cool down than with a nice cold glass of lemonade? (OK, lemonade wasn't found in his tomb, but we'll bet it was in there. The tomb was looted thousands of years ago so who knows.)

In homage to the ancient King, we offer this exceptional, organically grown grated lemon peel. Use it to create 100% organic lemon refreshments fit for a Pharaoh. Trust us, you've never had Lemonade until you've had Natural King Tut.

Try these fantastic King Tut Recipes:

    Tut on the Rocks
Makes 1 liter/quart: Place 6 teaspoons of lemon peel into a teapot or heat resistant pitcher. Add 1 1/4 cups of freshly boiled water. Steep 5 minutes. Fill a serving pitcher to the quarter mark with cold water. Pour concentrated lemon infusion into your serving pitcher straining the leaves. Add ice and top-up with cold water. Garnish and sweeten to taste.

Granittat-al-Lamun (A traditional Egyptian recipe for Lemon Ice)
2 Cups sugar - 5 Cups water - 1 half cup Organic King Tut Lemonade - 1 cup lemon juice
Combine water, sugar and organic lemonade in a pot and boil for 10 minutes, skimming when necessary. Strain, cool and add lemon juice. Finally, pour the mixture into an ice cube tray or other freezer container and chill in the freezer for 60 to 90 minutes. Yum!

  • Brewing Hot

Bring filtered or freshly drawn cold water to a rolling boil. Place 1 teaspoon of herbal tea, 1 tea bag or 1 Q3 single serve packet for each 7-9oz/200-260ml of fluid volume in the teapot. Pour the boiling water into the teapot. Cover and let steep for 5-10 minutes according to taste (the longer the steeping time, the better the flavor as more fruit and herb flavor is extracted). Garnish and sweeten to taste.

    Brewing Cold

Iced tea brewing method (Pitcher): (to make 1 liter/quart): Place 12 slightly heaping teaspoons of herbal tea, 6 tea bags or 6 Q3 single serve packets into a teapot or heat resistant pitcher. Using filtered or freshly drawn cold water, boil and pour 1 1/3 cups/315ml over the herbal tea. Steep for 5-10 minutes. Quarter fill a serving pitcher with cold water. Pour the tea into your serving pitcher straining the tea or removing the tea bags. Add ice and top-up the pitcher with cold water. Garnish and sweeten to taste. A rule of thumb when preparing fresh brewed iced herb & fruit tea is to increase the strength of hot brew since it will be poured over ice and diluted with cold water.

Iced tea brewing method (Individual Serving): Place 2 slightly heaping teaspoons of herbal tea, 1 tea bag or 1 Q3 single serve packet into a teapot for each serving required. Using filtered or freshly drawn cold water, boil and pour 6-7oz/170-200ml per serving over the herbal tea. Cover and let steep for 5-10 minutes. Add hot tea to a 12oz/375ml acrylic glass filled with ice, straining the tea or removing the bags. Not all of the tea will fit, allowing for approximately an additional 2nd serving. Garnish and sweeten to taste. A rule of thumb when preparing fresh brewed herb & fruit tea is to increase the strength of hot tea since it will be poured over ice and diluted.
