According to the American Heritage New Dictionary of Cultural Literacy, jet lag is defined as: A temporary disruption of the body's biological clock experienced by persons who travel across several time zones by airplane. The effects of jet lag, which may include fatigue and irritability, generally disappear after a few days as the body's internal rhythms readjust themselves to the new time frame. Now that's a mouthful.
For anyone who's ever experienced it however, coping with the symptoms of jet lag is one of the more difficult aspects of international travel. Running a tea company, we've had a lot of experience. (Annually we log literally hundreds of hours of travel time.) As tea blenders, we've also had a lot of opportunity to experiment with various herbals and develop teas to cope with the problem.
One of our favorite blends is this one here, Awake Herbal, a refreshing combination of Spearmint, Mate and Gynostemma. All three, in addition to offering high antioxidant levels, contribute to an overall sense of well being that helps keep the body alert after a long flight. Spearmint's cool, invigorating flavor keeps the mind bright. Mate, the national drink of Argentina opens the eyes thanks to its mateine content, by some counts a softer version of caffeine. Gynostemma, well known in traditional Chinese Medicine, is thought to stimulate the body and promote longevity. Taken together, all three offer one of the tastiest ways to invigorate yourself - wherever in the world you might be!
